Our biomass plant installation is now complete

Our Wilcare Group has invested £250,000 in a biomass plant system that will provide enough energy for our site to become self-sufficient.

The Wilcare Group has been designing and producing rise and recline furniture at our Cowbridge factory for over fifteen years and established our accentu8 brand of luxury chairs in 2014, designed by consultant creative designer Angela Gidden MBE.

The installation of the Froling wood chip boiler, state-of-the-art biomass heating system was designed to provide a single source of heating to its 36,000 square foot factory saving the business £20,000 a year.

Martyn Crocker, factory manager at Wilcare Group said: “We invested a quarter of a million pounds into this latest technology enabling us to become self-sufficient and heat our large factory and offices while reducing our carbon footprint further, which is really important to us.

“Due to the nature of our business, we have easy access to timber off-cuts from making our chairs so the wood is placed in the chipper and then placed into the wood chip boiler converting waste into energy.  This together with the feed from our wood dust extraction system is enough to provide plenty of heating and hot water for our 40 employees making us a substantial saving.”

The Froling wood chip boiler was installed by Biosol Renewables UK LTD, based in Llanelli,  designers of bespoke solar panel systems and suppliers of biomass boilers.

Ben Bundock, director at Biosol Renewables, said: “It was great to have the opportunity to work with Wilcare Wales and provide a sustainable heating solution for its business. The boiler has made a means of utilising their waste wood as a source of fuel, together with reducing heating costs and making available the RHI financial incentive for twenty years. It’s been a pleasure to work with Martyn, Anthony and the team from Wilcare.”
